Oklahoma Senate Overrides Governor Veto of Pro-Life Laws

Both bills restricting abortion have now become law.
(Oklahoma, USA)—On Tuesday morning the Oklahoma Senate overrode Governor Brad Henry's veto of two pieces of legislation that put restrictions on abortion in the state.
House Bill 2780 will require that women be given an ultrasound within an hour of a scheduled abortion and that the ultrasound technician explain the results of the scan to the mothers.
House Bill 2656 would prohibit the type of "wrongful life" lawsuits that have become increasingly common in the West, in which women sue their doctor after their child is born with an abnormality that the mother says would have led her to have the child killed through abortion, if she had known about it.
The governor had vetoed both of the bills on Friday, before the House overrode the move on Monday. Now that the Senate has followed suit, both bills have become law.
